SAN buses were produced in the Sanok Bus Factory over the years 1957 – 1974. More than 40,000 units of this type of “travel cars” left production lines. Following models from this family: SAN H-01, SAN H-25, SAN H-27, and SAN H-100 were produced in versions dedicated for intercity passenger transport (marked with letter “A”) and city passenger transport (marked with letter “B”). For the first model SAN H-01 construction documentation was developed by the Design Bureau of Automotive Industry in Warsaw. All subsequent models have been later developed by engineers and designers from Sanok. With new models, new solutions were introduced, which upgraded the buses, improved their safety, comfort of travelling and driver work as well as their aesthetic. Vehicle durability also was increasing: from the mileage of 100 thousand km to 400 thousand km (until decommissioning).

AUTOSAN H9 buses
In the early 1970s, conducted analyses have shown that further upgrading of SAN construction has become economically and technically unjustified. Work on a completely new vehicle was started, which resulted that AUTOSAN H9 bus entered into serial production in 1973. Its technical solutions were a major advance in the development of the structure and matched world standards of that time. AUTOSAN H9 was produced in intercity and city versions.
Compared to its predecessors it characterized itself by a number of innovative solutions and applications: – assembled license-mounted engines with increased power located at the rear of the vehicle, – easy access to the engine and its accessories by using raised rear tailgate, – use of rectangular pipes as a material of the body frame, proper corrosion protection, dip-coat priming, modern furnace lacquer for increasing the service life of the vehicle, – increased passenger seating capacity to 37 seating and 10 standing places in intercity version and 24 seats and 46 standing places in city version, – improved driver’s working conditions by using licensed, synchronized gearbox, comfortable seat and hydraulic assisted steering wheel, – new interior design increasing passengers traveling comfort.
AUTOSAN H9 series buses were produced over the years 1973 – 2003. The factory gates left over 58,000 vehicles of this type.. During this period, a number of smaller or larger modernizations were introduced to adapt H9 buses to market requirements. Buses were operated on the domestic market as well as in Asia, Africa and South America. They were exported among others to Egypt, China, Vietnam, Ghana, Korea, Nigeria, Panama, Uganda, Costa Rica and former Soviet Union countries.
H9 family vehicles were produced in many special application versions: conference bus, environmental pollution testing laboratory, cinema bus, ambulance bus, X-ray bus, blood donation bus, mobile post, mobile shop, school bus.
For years AUTOSAN buses have been an inseparable part of Polish landscapes. This is what we say about them, “they carried whole Poland” and reached every corner of our country. They “played” in many Polish movies and films were made about them.. They had many fans and collected very good opinions among carriers and passengers. Some of them are still in service to the present day.
